This is the story of how our world died. My name is Gale, I'll be telling this tale. It's the history of my people, my race, and my tribe. So listen closely, because I can only tell this once without getting chocked up and angry.

The sickness came without warning. The disease, the plague... it consumed our world, spreading through mammals like rabies and forcing the loss of everything we know. Of course, there was always hope. That hope is what you may know as the Sun. The ball of fiery light that signals the day and keeps the Infected at bay. Humans, being their nature, immediately set out on finding a cure. They tried and tried for years, but with all the victims getting attacked and bitted and scratched... there soon grew to be very little life on earth. Trees and grass... hah. I've heard of it, but never have I seen anything alive that wasn’t a shade of grey or brown. Even us felines grew to adapt. But that isn’t as easy as it may sound. Water is almost as scarce as food, and in the city we steal whatever we can from the abandoned human homes. I do not know where the humans went, and often I find myself wondering if they left the city for a reason. Could there be somewhere... safe?

We make do with what we have, and right now, that is each other. We hide away in an abandoned, crumbling building, with boarded up windows and a small hole in the wall in which we enter. It's the best place we could find amongst the rubble of the human's creation. It keeps us relatively safe from the Infected, who only come out after the sun sets. Our biggest rule:

Don’t get caught outside after dark.
